Undulating
streams, whispering bamboo, diverse wildlife and innumerable
trekking trails make Dandeli a dream destination. The
River Kali and its tributaries, Kaneri and Nagajhari,
meander through the moist deciduous and semi-evergreen
forests. |
The
Dandeli forests also play host to the graceful Virnoli
Rapids, the magnificent Supa Dam, the sinister Syntheri
Rocks, Nagajhari Viewpoint, the Kulgi Nature Education
Camp, the Kavla Caves with their Shivling-like stalagmites
and Sykes Point, which offers a stunning view of the
Kalinadi Valley. Adventure programmes, white water Rafting
through foreign experts and imported hi-tech equipment

The
gigantic statue of Lord Shiva overlooking Murudeshwar
entices tourists by busloads every day. The sea surrounds
the temple on three sides. Two life-size elephants in
concrete stand guard on the steps leading to the temple. |
On the 180 km route from Mangalore you pass the alluring
blue stretch. This stretch has the Arabian Sea roaring
on the West and a serene river flowing on the East.
You cruise along this experience on the National Highway
for almost 2 km. It is being developed into a resort
to stand on its own.

Hampi,
one of India’s unique dynasty. The city of ruins
stretches over 70 sq kms in an incredible outer space
landscape of rocks pilled in fantastic alignments, and
valleys. In solitude and silence, desolate yet fascinating.

And meandering through is Tungabhadra,
the sacred river referred to as the Ganga of the South.
Here the very stones speak: myths, deeds of valour,
legends have been etched by scribes and sculptors everywhere.
There are innumerable temples, some seem to have been
“built like giants and finished like jewels”
Awesome monoliths, musical pillars, soaring towers,
wonderfully preserved elephants stables, stepped bathing
tanks, the unusual Queen’s bath with its Indo-Saracen
architecture, Lotus Mahal with its beautiful arches,
royal dwellings, pillared pavilions, stone chariot….
the incredible Hampi Bazaar… |

This romantic getaway which offers
complete privacy and solitude."The beach of Karwar
is certainly a fit place in which to realise that
the beauty of Nature is not a mirage, but reflects
the joy of the Infinite within the bounds of form
and thus draws us to lose ourselves in it". Thus
wrote Rabindranath Tagore when he was in Karwar in
the early part of this century. To experience what
Tagore meant, one has to visit Devbagh island in Karwar.
